Und hier komme ich zum Ausgangpunkt für meine Bewunderung von Arno (damals noch ohne Argos) Raunig. Seinen Ruggiero erlebte ich dreimal in einer wunderbaren „Alcina“-Inszenierung in Darmstadt (incl. einem Gastspiel in Wiesbaden), wo das Stück etwa halb so lang war wie etwa in Wien 2011 und eine abwechslungsreiche Opernhandlung mit herrlichen Kostümen und fantasievollen Nachbildungen von Pflanzen und Tieren, in die die Zauberin ihre Liebhaber verwandelt hatte. Ruggiero mit einem attraktiven jungen Mann besetzt – da kommt keine noch so vortreffliche Mezzosopranistin heran. (Und man darf sich auf die kommende Salzburger Pfingst-Inszenierung mit Cecilia Bartoli und einem Counter als Partner freuen!) Mit den 3 großen Arien „Mi lusinga“, „Verdi prati“ und dem lebhaften „Sta nell’ircana“ gibt Raunig auf dieser CD Kostproben aus seiner absoluten Glanzrolle.
(Eng) And this is where I come to the starting point for my admiration of Arno Raunig. I saw his Ruggiero three times in a wonderful “Alcina” production in Darmstadt (including a guest performance in Wiesbaden), where the piece was about half as long as in Vienna in 2011 and a varied opera plot with wonderful costumes and imaginative replicas of plants and animals into which the sorceress had transformed her lovers. Ruggiero is played by an attractive young man – no mezzo-soprano, no matter how excellent, can come close. With the three great arias “Mi lusinga”, “Verdi prati” and the lively “Sta nell’ircana”, Raunig gives samples of his absolutely brilliant role on this CD.
