Arno Raunig gave a flawless countertenor performance as Ruggiero and, after being rescued by Bradamante, surprised the audience with a footbath and a genuine Schuhplattler (The Schuhplattler is a traditional style of folk dance popular in the Eastern Alps, specifically originating in Upper Bavaria, Tyrol, and Salzburg). Some Baroque purists may have been shocked, but most people enjoyed it.
